The Eighteenth hardest wood in the Timber tones range with a Janka hardness rating of 830 lbf.
African Mahogany is a light brown hardwood with shimmering patterns.
The wood is obtained from the Khaya Nyasica tree found mainly in Tropical Africa and can grow up to 100 ft high.
Our African Mahogany plectrums are manufactured from off cuts from musical instrument and flooring manufacturing.
Interesting Facts:
African Mahogany is pruned during the dry season to feed cattle and the bark is used to treat many diseases. In the 70s some drum companies used this timber to make drum shells. Traditionally mahogany has been used to make the back s and sides of guitars and Ukeleles.
African Mahogany has very warm tones however due to its relative softness it is only recommended for use on Nylon strung Guitars.
